I am the author of a memoir, Criminals, and two novels, All the Money in the World and All Will Be Revealed. I write about family, parenthood, the criminal justice system, East Asia, books and art.

My work has appeared in The New York TimesThe Los Angeles Times, Smithsonian, The Paris Review and The Paris Review Daily, The Oxford American, Ploughsharesand other venues. I've been a Fulbright Scholar in Taiwan and a Mombukagakusho Fellow in Japan. Other awards include O. Henry and Pushcart Prizes.

Iā€™m on the faculty at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. I also direct MA theses at The LaSalle College of the Arts in Singapore and lead workshops and do manuscript consults at Catapult.

I am a contributing editor at The Harvard Review and Scoundrel Time.
